2010 Municipal Elections Campaign Contributions and
Expenses In accordance with section 77 of the Municipal Elections
Act this is to advise candidates that the deadline for submitting Financial
Statements relating to the 2010 Municipal Elections is Friday March 26,
2011, 2:00pm. New: view the

All candidates must file a financial statement:
If a candidate wishes to continue his/her campaign
period in order to eliminate a deficit, the candidate must notify the Clerk in
writing using
Form 25, on or before Friday December 31, 2010.
Please Note: because the City of Mississauga offices
are closed from Noon on Friday December 24, 2010 until Tuesday January 4, 2011
any candidate wishing to continue his/her campaign must file in writing no
later than Tuesday January 4, 2011.

NOMINATIONS
HAVE OFFICIALLY CLOSED FOR THE 2010 MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
Nominations for the City of Mississauga 2010 Municipal Election will be
accepted as of January 4, 2010 and may be filed until the close of nominations
on Friday, September 10, 2010, at 2:00 p.m.

Procedures
Nomination Forms are
available online and also in the Candidate Information Packages which can be
obtained from:
The City of Mississauga, Office of the City
Clerk, 2nd Floor, 300 City Centre Drive between the hours 8:30 a.m. -
4:30 p.m.
A Nomination Paper must be filed by the candidate,
in person, or by an agent acting on the candidate's behalf. The candidate or
the agent will be required to provide proof of identiy when submitting
Nominaton Paper.
Filing Fee
$200 for the Office of Mayor
$100 for the Office of Council or School Board
Trustee
Payment can be made by cash, credit card, certified
cheque or money order. No personal cheques.

Nomination Day Procedures
NOTICE TO ALL PROSPECTIVE & REGISTERED
CANDIDATES: In December 2009, Bill 212 received Royal Assent. The Bill
amended the Municipal Elections Act governing the 2010 Municipal Elections. One
of the major amendments affects the Nomination Process.
Please be
advised that in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act nomination day is
Friday September 10, 2010. Submissions of nomination and withdrawals close at
exactly 2:00pm
General Information - Nomination Day
- All nominations and withdrawals must be submitted
between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the Office of the City Clerk, 2nd Floor, 300
City Centre Dr.
- To submit a nomination or withdrawal of
nomination, a candidate must have submitted a nomination or withdrawal form, or
be waiting in line to be processed, in the office of the City Clerk, on or
before 1:59:59 p.m. on September 10th 2010.
- The clock in the Office of the City Clerk is
deemed to be the official time clock for submission of nominations and
withdrawals.
- Candidates waiting in line will be served in
order of the line. " Due to the limited space in the reception area of the
Clerk's Office, if space is required to accommodate CANDIDATES or AGENTS
waiting to submit nominations or withdrawal of nominations, ALL persons NOT
conducting election business, may be asked to leave the Clerk's Office
reception area and wait outside the office.
- To save time and avoid delays please have all
paperwork completed and appropriate documentation ready for processing
NOTE: All cell phones must be turned
off!
Filing by Candidate (In- Person)
A) The filing of a Nomination shall;
- be in the prescribed form (Nomination Form - EL1)

- be accompanied by a Declaration of Qualification
in the prescribed form.
- signed in the presence of the Clerk or
Commissioner by the person being nominated (candidate)
- be accompanied by the prescribed filing fee

Filing by Authorized Agent (In the absence of the
Candidate)
A) The filing of a
Nomination shall;
- be in the prescribed form (Nomination Form -
EL1).
- be accompanied by a declaration of qualification
in the prescribed form.

Form - EL1 is declared and signed in the presence of a commissioner appointed
under the Commissioner of Oaths Act. " be accompanied by the prescribed filing
fee.
The agent must provide his/her identification
and sign a declaration.
B) The filing of a Withdrawal of Nomination
shall;
- In writing by completing Withdrawal of Nomination
Form - EL19.
- the candidate must ensure that the Withdrawal of
Nomination Form - EL 19 is declared and signed in the presence of a
commissioner appointed under the Commissioner of Oaths Act).
The agent must provide his/her
identification and sign a declaration.

Qualifications
of a Candidate
A person who wants to be a candidate in the 2010
municipal election must be a qualified elector. A candidate must be qualified
as of the day he or she is nominated and must remain qualified throughout the
election period and, if elected, throughout the term of office.
A person is entitled to be a candidate if he or
she,
- a resident of the City of Mississauga, a
non-resident owner or tenant of land in the City of Mississauga or the spouse
of such non-resident owner or tenant;
- a Canadian citizen;
- at least 18 years old on voting day;
- not be legally prohibited from voting; and
- not be disqualified by any legislation from
holding municipal office.
NOTE: School board candidates should
confirm that they have the qualifications described in s.219 of the Education Act.

Disqualifications of a Candidate
The following persons are or may be disqualified
from being elected to municipal office:
- any person not eligible to vote in the City of
Mississauga;
- an employee of the City of Mississauga or local
board unless he or she:
- takes an unpaid leave of absence before being
nominated, and
- resigns, if elected to the office;
- a judge of any court;
- a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario,
a Senator or a Member of the House of Commons; or
- an inmate of a penal or correctional institution
under sentence of imprisonment.

Mayor: One (1) to be elected at large in
the City of Mississauga
Councillors: One (1) to be elected from
each of the eleven wards in Mississauga
Trustees: In accordance with O.Reg 412/00 of the
Education Act the School Boards have completed their calculations for Trustee
Distribution for the upcoming election. The 2010 final trustee distribution is

Withdrawal of Nomination
A candidate who wishes to
withdraw his or her nomination must notify the Clerk in writing before 2 p.m.,
Friday, September 10, 2010. The candidate must file his or her withdrwal in
person and must provide identification.
2010 Nomination Day
Procedures
If an agent files a written withdrawal on behalf of a
candidate, the candidate must provide the agent with an original, signed letter
of authorization to file the withdrawal.
The candidate will still be
required to sumit a financial statement (due no later than March 25, 2011)
covering all financial transactions up to the time of the
withdrawal.

Election
Signs
As a candidate in the 2010 Municipal Elections we
wish to draw to your attention that election signs in the City of Mississauga
are regulated by Sign By-law 0054-2002, as amended.
The entire Sign
By-law (see Section 21 "Election Signs" on pages 22-23) is included in the
Candidates package. Refer to the entire Sign By-law 0054-2002 as amended, for
comprehensive requirements. The Sign By-law in its entirety can also be found
on line at
http://www.mississauga.ca/portal/cityhall/bylaws Please
be advised that the City of Mississauga has adopted a zero tolerance policy for
contraventions of the Sign By-law. The City of Mississauga will enforce the
Sign By-law without further notice. Enforcement includes:
- The immediate removal of signs displayed in
contravention of the Sign By-law.
- The immediate disposal of illegal signs ten (10)
square feet or less in area which have been removed by the City.
- Signs which are greater than ten (10) square feet
in area will be held in storage for 30 days during which period signs which
have been removed may be redeemed upon payment of a two hundred dollar
($200.00) removal fee plus twenty dollars ($20.00) per day storage fee per
sign. After 30 days, signs which have not been redeemed will be destroyed or
otherwise disposed.
- Issuance of a Part 1 Ticket, per offence,
pursuant to the Provincial Offences Act.
- Issuance of a Summons to appear in Provincial
Offences Court. Every person who con travenes any provision of the By-law is
guilty of an offence pursuant to the provisions of the Provincial Offences
Act, R.S.O. 1990, c P.33, as amended, and is subject to a fine of not more
than $5,000.00 exclusive of costs.
Candidates are responsible to ensure their
election signs comply with the requirements at all times.
